Applied Separations Mourns the Loss of Martin Fetner

ALLENTOWN, PA, April 21, 2016. Applied Separations announced with great sadness today that co-founder, Executive Vice President, and Chief Technology Officer, Martin (Marty) Fetner passed away at home on Sunday April 16, 2017 after a long illness. Fetner was 76.

Fetner’s career began in 1963 with General Dynamics in New London, Connecticut after obtaining an Electrical Engineering degree from City College of New York. Fetner earned his Master’s Degree in 1967 from the University of Connecticut and in 1968, joined Bethlehem Steel’s Homer Research Laboratories in Bethlehem, PA.

In 1987, Fetner co-founded Applied Separations, an international provider of scientific instruments, supplies and equipment for supercritical fluid separations with Rolf Schlake.

“My partner, my colleague and most of all, my friend has moved on to a better place. His methodical innovative manner has been an inspiration to all of us. It will not be the same without him. He will be sorely missed,” said owner and co-founder, Rolf Schlake.

During his time with Applied Separations, Fetner was a key resource in developing multiple lines of laboratory instruments and consumables and holds several patents in the field. Although Fetner stepped away from daily participation in company operations in 2016, the guidance he provided to the company will never be forgotten.

Fetner is survived by his wife, Lana, children, Neal J. Fetner and his wife Sheila of Midland, MI and Erica A. Keagy and her husband Ken of Ardmore, PA; Grandchildren, Hannah and Alex Fetner and Anabel and Kenny Keagy; and Brother, Gerald L. Fetner. He was preceded in death by a Daughter, Deborah E. Fetner, in 2010. Funeral arrangements were held in accordance with Fetner’s wishes.

Fetner’s family has requested that Memorial Donations may be made to the John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Attn: Development Dept., P.O. Box 689, Allentown, PA 18105, Lehigh Valley Home Care or Lehigh Valley Hospice, both at 2024 Lehigh St. Suite 100, Allentown PA 18103.
