Applied Separations is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016 Spe-ed™ SFE Prime Grant for Education is Julie Layshock, Ph.D – Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Pacific University.
Dr. Layshock completed her B.S. in forensic toxicology at John Jay College in 2005 and her PhD in environmental toxicology at Oregon State University in 2010. After completing a post-doc at Los Alamos National laboratory, she worked as a Principal Research Scientist in environmental analytical chemistry at Battelle Memorial Institute in Duxbury, MA. She began teaching chemistry in 2014 at Humboldt State University.
This fall, Dr. Layshock will begin teaching analytical, general, and environmental chemistry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She researches toxicologically relevant contaminants in environmental samples that are of interest to the local community. With this award, she plans to develop green methods of extraction and analysis and to develop instructional demonstrations and laboratories.
